Manufacturing a new product

It is a lot of work to start a factory from the ground up, especially if you are making a product that is not common in Australia. Luckily these days there is a lot more support online and it can be really useful for entrepreneurs to talk to other people who have started manufacturing in Australia rather than going overseas. This blog has a range of handy resources for people who are looking to manufacture a new product in Australia, including links to industry groups, government associations and technical resources that can help to maximise your chances of starting a successful manufacturing operation.

Commercial Windows: Should You Choose Acrylic Glass Sheets for Your Custom Glazing?

If you are planning on replacing your window glazing, you should consider using customised acrylic glass sheeting (also called Perspex) as opposed to traditional glass. In general, commercial building owners prefer to install glass because of its classic benefits such as optical performance, low maintenance and general appeal. However, acrylic glass sheeting is gaining traction in the same application due to its numerous exceptional properties. If you are uncertain whether acrylic is suitable for your building renovation, consider this short discussion on the beneficial characteristics of this material over the traditional option.

Material Strength Commercial spaces require high-strength windows because of the typical environments in which they are built. If the windows are not impact-resistant, they will be more prone to failure due to accidental stress and impact. Moreover, strong window glazing can provide an extra layer of protection during an attempted break-in or in inclement weather. Unlike common glass, acrylic glass sheets are not prone to breakage and shattering. They can resist everyday physical stresses without degradation. Besides, you can choose impact-modified acrylic sheets if you need highly durable windows. You should remember that there are toughened glass windows on the market. However, the cost of purchase, transportation and installation can be high.

Light Transmission Light transmission is an important property to consider when purchasing or ordering your custom window glazing. Traditional glass has good optical characteristics and transmits natural light well. However, the reflectivity of the material can cause significant challenges. Simple glass windows tend to have reflections and light glares which can cause discomfort in the interior commercial space. Acrylic glass sheets have a distinct advantage over the conventional choice with regard to light transmission. The plastic material has high clarity, a property which allows light to pass through naturally. You will not have glare problems in your business space after installation. In addition, you should note that acrylic, unlike glass, will not show colour distortion even if the glass is thick.

Material Safety Finally, you should think about the safety of the building occupants when installing your new commercial windows. Both traditional and acrylic glass sheets are suitable materials if you choose the right product. However, the latter option has some distinct advantages. Acrylic glass sheeting is made of plastic, so it will not break into dangerous shards under high impact or pressure. If you want to achieve the same results with glass, you must choose expensive safety glass. Additionally, you can still customise your window glazing with UV filters for optimal employee protection.
